This is a list of diplomatic missions in the People's Republic of China, excluding Hong Kong and Macau. Due to the One-China policy, the PRC is recognized by 178 out of 193 United Nations member states and the State of Palestine as its sovereignty is disputed by the Republic of China. As the world's most populous country, the world's largest economy by PPP, and a major great power, as well as an emerging superpower,[1][2][3] China is a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, with a recognized nuclear power state and the world's largest standing army. In 2019, China had the largest diplomatic network in the world.[4] China hosts a large diplomatic community in its capital city of Beijing. Beijing hosts 173 embassies,[5] with numerous countries maintaining consulates general and consulates throughout the country.

China, the emerging superpower, netted the highest gains in overall power in 2019, ranking first in half of the eight Index measures. For the first time, China narrowly edged out the United States in the Index’s assessment of economic resources. In absolute terms China’s economy grew by more than the total size of Australia’s economy in 2018. The world’s largest trading nation has also paradoxically seen its GDP become less dependent on exports. This makes China less vulnerable to an escalating trade war than most other Asian economies.
