Bosnia and Herzegovina was represented by Laka in the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 with the song "Pokušaj".

Before Eurovision[]

Internal selection[]

On 3 November 2007, BHRT opened the submission period for artists and composers to submit their entries up until 20 December 2007. Artists were required to have Bosnian citizenship and only artists that had at least three years of television or concert appearances and that had released at least two albums and three music videos were eligible for consideration. Songs were required to be submitted in one of the official languages of Bosnia and Herzegovina.[1] At the closing of the deadline, 31 valid submissions out of 50 were received by BHRT. On 27 December 2007, the broadcaster announced that they had internally selected Laka to represent Bosnia and Herzegovina in Belgrade. The seven-member selection committee that selected both the artist and the song consisted of Dejan Kukrić (Head of Delegation for Bosnia at the Eurovision Song Contest), Milorad Kenjalović (Dean of Academy of Arts at the University of Banja Luka), Vesna Andree-Zaimović (music professor), Jasmin Ferović (BH Radio 1), Damir Šehanović (music journalist), Admir Djulandzić (producer) and Maja Čengić (BH Eurosong 2008 press and public relations officer).[2]

The song to be performed at the contest, "Pokušaj", was presented during a television special entitled BH Eurosong 2008 on 2 March 2008. The show was broadcast on BHT 1 and BHT SAT. In addition to the presentation of the song, the show featured guest performances by 2008 Croatian Eurovision entrants Kraljevi ulice and 75 Cents, 2008 Macedonian Eurovision entrants Tamara, Vrčak and Adrian and 2008 Slovenian Eurovision entrant Rebeka Dremelj.[3]

At Eurovision[]

Since Bosnia & Herzegovina had come in 11th in the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2007, Laka were obliged to perform their song in one of the two semi-finals of the 2008 contest.[4] The EBU split up countries with a friendly voting history into the two different semi-finals, to give a better chance to other countries to win. On 28 January 2008, the EBU held a special draw which determined that Bosnia-Herzegovina would be in the first semi-final, held on 20 May 2008.[5] performed 13th, on 20 May 2008, following Andorra and preceding Armenia. Their entry scored a total of 72 points and placed 9th qualified to the final.[6][7] In the final, Laka performed 6th following Armenia and preceding Israel finished 10th with 110 points.[8]

Dejan Kukrić was the commentator on Bosnian television, and Melina Garibović was the Bosnian spokesperson.[9][10]
