Skočice is a village and municipality (obec) in Strakonice District in the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic.

The municipality covers an area of 9.81 square kilometres (3.79 sq mi), and has a population of 200 (as at 3 July 2006).

Skočice lies approximately 18 kilometres (11 mi) south-east of Strakonice, 36 km (22 mi) north-west of České Budějovice, and 104 km (65 mi) south of Prague.

Historic monuments[]

  • The Church of Visiting of Virgin Mary is an early baroque building consecrated in 1678 by noble donors Polyxena Ludmila and her husband Ignac Karel of Sternberg; a pilgrimage site known by its miracle picture of Virgin Mary (a copy of Cranach's Icon of Maria Hilf of Passau), surrounded by a cemetery. There is a pilgrim's route from Vodňany of about seven kilometres.
