The Muri Express is an Express train belonging to Indian RailwaysSouth Eastern Railway zone that runs between Tatanagar Junction & Jammu Tawi in India.

It operates as train number 18101 from Tatanagar Junction to Jammu Tawi and as train number 18102 in the reverse direction, serving the states of Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir.

Coaches[]

The 18101 / 02 Tatanagar–Jammu Tawi has 1 AC 3 tier, 5 Sleeper Class, 3 Unreserved/General & 2 Seating cum Luggage Rake Coaches. It does not carry a pantry car. In addition, about 11 coaches of the Sambalpur–Jammu Tawi Express are attached / detached at Muri.[1].

As is customary with most train services in India, coach composition may be amended at the discretion of Indian Railways depending on demand.

The 18101 Tatanagar–Jammu Tawi Express covers the distance of 2,026 km (1,259 mi) in 47 hours 20 mins (42.80 km/hr) [2] & in 43 hours 55 mins as 18102 Jammu Tawi–Tatanagar Express (46.13 km/hr).

As the average speed of the train is below 55 km/h (34 mph), as per Indian Railways rules, its fare does not include a Superfast surcharge.

Routeing[]

The 18101 / 18102 Tatanagar–Jammu Tawi Express runs from Tatanagar Junction via Muri, Barkakana, Daltonganj, Chopan, Chunar, Allahabad Junction, Kanpur Central, Tundla Junction, Khurja Junction, Ghaziabad, Delhi Junction, Panipat Junction, Ambala Cantonment Junction, Ludhiana Junction, Amritsar Junction, Pathankot Junction to Jammu Tawi [3].

It reverses its direction of travel twice during its run at Amritsar Junction and Pathankot Junction.

Traction[]

As large section of the route are yet to be fully electrified and due to the routing of the train, a Tatanagar-based WAP-7 locomotive which hauls the train from Tatanagar up to Amritsar and handing over to a Ludhiana-based WDM-3A locomotive which powers the train until Jammu Tawi & vice versa.

  • 18102 Jammu Tawi–Tatanagar Junction Express runs from Jammu Tawi on a daily basis reaching Tatanagar Junction on the 3rd day. [5].

2015 derailment[]

On 25 May 2015, 8 coaches of Rourkela–Jammu Tawi Muri Express derailed near Athsari, on Mughalsarai–Kanpur section around 1:40 pm in afternoon. 4 people died and 9 were injured in the accident. Both, Rail Minister Suresh Prabhu & Chief Minister of U.P. Akhilesh Yadav announced compensation to the victims of accident.[citation needed]
