I Can See Your Voice is a German television mystery music game show series on RTL. It is based on the South Korean programme of the same name.

Gameplay[]

Format[]

A guest artist and contestant are presented with a group of seven "mystery singers" — some of them are good singers, and some are bad. The contestant must attempt to eliminate bad singers from the group by guessing who they are without hearing them sing. They get assistance from clues by "celebrity panelists" over the course of four rounds. The contestant will eliminate one to two singers at the end of each round and then proceeding to perform on the "stage of truth". At the end, the winning mystery singer is revealed as good or bad by means of a duet with one of the guest artists.[1]

Rewards[]

If the last mystery singer is a good singer, the contestant wins a cash prize of 10.000. On the other hand, if the last mystery singer is a bad singer, the same amount is given to the winning bad singer itself.

Rounds[]

There are seven individuals of mystery singers standing on a platform to keep identities concealed until the "stage of truth" performance.

  • Singer's visual
  • First impression (German: Erster Eindruck)

The guest artist and contestant are given some time to observe and examine each mystery singer based on their appearance.[a][b]

  • Singer's lip-sync
  • Lip sync challenge (German: Lip sync)

Each mystery singer performs a lip sync to a song. Good singers are miming to own voices while bad singers are miming to other's voices.[a][b]

  • Singer's evidence
  • Fact or fake (German: Fakt oder Fake)

A proof of each mystery singer's singing ability (i.e. photo, video, certificates, etc.) is shown on the screen.[a][b]

  • Secret studio (German: Soundcheck)

The guest artist and contestant are presented with a video recording from a studio session on each mystery singer, although the audio is distorted so they cannot clearly hear their vocals.[b]

  • Singer's interrogation
  • Cross-examination (German: Kreuzverhör)

The guest artist and contestant must have then 60 seconds to interrogate the remaining mystery singers before making the final decision.[a][b]

Background and development[]

Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland first announced the development of the series in June 2020.[2] Produced by Tresor Productions (a company of Keshet International),[3] the staff team is managed by executive producer Tobias Cullmann, producer Tina Allert, and director Bastien Angemeer.[4]

Filming[]

Episode tapings took place at MMC Studios in Ossendorf, Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia and began on 30 July 2020.[5][6] RTL's announcement came out on October when it was decided to restart production for second season in 2021 after shortlived first season broadcasts proved successful.[7][8] Since the second season, it was taped under enhanced health and safety protocols being implemented due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Two episodes were completed before production was halted due to pandemic. One main reason for such interruption is lacking of safety countermeasures.[9] Tresor Productions spokesperson Jovan Evermann stated in response that the programme followed its guidelines according to the federal health department. None of the audience caught positive of virus at the end of production.[10]

Broadcast[]

I Can See Your Voice debuted on 18 August 2020[11][12] as a part of the network's Power Week special programming.[13][14] The second season premiered on 30 March 2021,[15][16] a week after the fourth season finale of ProSieben's rival programme The Masked Singer, another German adaptation of the South Korean reality competition series.[17]

Cast[]

The series employs a team of "celebrity panelists" who decipher mystery singers' evidences throughout the game. Guest panelists also appear since the second season. Throughout its broadcast, the programme has assigned 5 different panelists. The original members consist of  [de],  [de], Thomas Hermanns, Tim Mälzer, and Judith Rakers.[18]
