Hidden Voices (Vietnamese: Giọng ải giọng ai, abbreviated GAGA) is a Vietnamese television mystery music game show series on HTV7.

Gameplay[]

Format[]

The two opposing guest artists are presented with a group of seven "mystery singers" — some of them are good singers, and some are bad. The artists must attempt to eliminate bad singers from the group by guessing who they are without hearing them sing. They get assistance from clues by "celebrity panelists" over the course of three rounds. The artists will eliminate one to two singers at the end of each round and then proceeding to perform on the "stage of truth". At the end, both winning mystery singers are revealed as good or bad by means of a duet with both guest artists.[1][2]

Under the versus format, both opposing guest artists can eliminate one mystery singer each in the first two rounds, and then both can choose one mystery singer each to perform a duet in the third round. The winning conditions for the mystery singers chosen by both guest artists, depending on the outcome of a duet performance, if:

  1. One guest artist has chosen a "good singer" and the other one has chosen a "bad singer"; or
  2. Both two guest artists have chosen a "good singer" or a "bad singer".

Rewards[]

  • If one guest artist has chosen a good singer, he/she wins a cash prize of 50.000.000. In case of a tie (as both opponents have chosen a good singer), the same amount becomes split in half, leaving with ₫25.000.000 each. Both winning singers, regardless of being good or bad, receive ₫10.000.000 each.
  • Since the fifth season, the eliminated good singer gets a consolation prize of ₫2.000.000.

Rounds[]

There are seven individuals of mystery singers standing on a platform to keep identities concealed until the "stage of truth" performance.

  • Visual round

The guest artist is given some time to observe and examine each mystery singer based on their appearance. Afterward, a muted video of each mystery singer that reveals only 0.3 seconds of their singing voice is played as an additional hint.[a][b][c][d][e]

  • Lip sync round

Each mystery singer performs a lip sync to a song. Good singers mime to a recording of their own performance while bad singers mime to a recording of someone's else.[a][b][c][d][e]

  • Interrogation round

The guest artist must have then 30 seconds to question one of the remaining mystery singers before making the final decision. Good singers tell the truth while bad singers fabricate their own reality to make everyone believe they can sing.[a][c][d][e]

  • Talent round

The guest artist must describe one of the mystery singer's other talents, except "singing" itself. It may unrelated to the stage of truth, but it depends on the mystery singer's identity.[b]

Background and development[]

Originally based on South Korean program I Can See Your Voice, the gameplay of Hidden Voices is ruled under modified "versus format",[3] which made them officially recognized as part of the latter franchise that was later applied into ICSYV counterparts such as Indonesia and Thailand.[4] Produced by Điền Quân Media, Color Entertainment and Pixel Factory, [5] the staff team is managed by producer Trần Thế Khương and director Khương Dừa.

Filming[]

Episode tapings took place at the Pixel Factory Studio in Gò Vấp, Ho Chi Minh City. In an official statement with director Khương on 5 April 2020, the fifth season was planned to halt production due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, it did not materialize and went on to continue production without audience with enhanced health and safety protocols being implemented.[6]

Physical auditions for the recent fifth season are planning to be held on 13 to 15 March 2020 but it was also cancelled because of pandemic.[7] The same announcement came out on 5 April when online auditions conducted since 1 April with an official mystery singers' selection on 5 May.[6]
