Yip Hon Weng (Chinese: 叶汉荣; pinyin: Yè Hànróng; born 1977)[1] is a Singaporean politician. A member of the governing People's Action Party (PAP), he is a Member of the 14th Parliament and has been representing Yio Chu Kang Single Member Constituency (SMC) since 2020.[1]

Education[]

Yip graduated with a bachelor's degree (first class honours) in physical education, sports science and mathematics from Loughborough University under an overseas scholarship from the Public Service Commission.[2] He completed his training as a teacher and obtained a PGCE from Exeter University. Later, he completed master's degrees in administration, planning and social policy; and international education (double concentrations) at Harvard University, knowledge engineering at the National University of Singapore, and financial engineering at Nanyang Technological University with a project stint at Carnegie Mellon University. He is a Sloan Fellow and has completed a Master of Business Administration at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology under an Administrative Service Postgraduate Scholarship from the Singapore government.[2]

Early career[]

Yip started his career as a physical education and mathematics teacher in Kent Ridge Secondary School.[2] He subsequently served in several leadership, management and policy related roles in the Ministries of Education, Manpower, Defence, Health and National Development.[2] He was also part of the founding team that established the Municipal Services Office announced at the National Day Rally Speech in 2014, when the OneService app was created.[2] He was Group Chief of the Silver Generation Office in the Agency of Integrated Care and concurrently Advisor (Care Integration) under the Ministry of Health prior to entering politics.

Politics[]

Yip was fielded in the 2020 general election to contest in Yio Chu Kang SMC on the People's Action Party's (PAP) ticket against the Progress Singapore Party.[3] On 11 July 2020, Yip was declared an elected Member of Parliament representing Yio Chu Kang SMC in the 14th Parliament after garnering 61% of the valid votes.[4]

Yip is married and has five children.[5]
