Garadaghly (Azerbaijani: Qaradağlı) or Varanda (Armenian: Վարանդա) is a village de facto in the Martuni Province of the self-proclaimed Republic of Artsakh, de jure in the Khojavend District of Azerbaijan. The village had an Azerbaijani-majority population prior to their expulsion during the First Nagorno-Karabakh War.[2]

During the Soviet period, the village was a part of the Martuni District of the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast.

During the First Nagorno-Karabakh War, the capture of Garadaghly (also called the Garadaghly massacre) saw the deaths of 20-90 Azerbaijani civilians.[3][4] Armenian forces captured the village in early February 1992, as well as the villages of Malibeyli and Aghdaban with their populations being expelled, resulting in the death of at least 99 civilians and 140 injuries.[5]

The population is mainly engaged in agriculture and animal husbandry. As of 2015, the village has a municipal building, a secondary school and a medical centre.[1]

According to the Caucasus Calendar of 1910, the village had 500 inhabitants in 1908, with the majority being Tatars (Azerbaijanis),[6] the village also had an Azerbaijani majority in 1989.[2] Azerbaijani IDPs from the village mostly settled in the Beylagan District of Azerbaijan.[7] The village was settled by Armenians after the First Nagorno-Karabakh War.
