Surseni is a village in district Unnao of Uttar Pradesh, India. It is situated on the Lucknow-Bangarmau Road and is about 50 km from district Unnao, 25 km from Safipur and 40 km from city of Kannauj. The population has increased with 15% in 2011 census.[citation needed]

It is an approximately 600-year-old village which is 2 km from Bangarmau Tehsil( Sub-District). Near the village is an old Karbala which is visited by Muslims and non-Muslims in the month of muharram.

Nasiruddin's House

Surseni is the biggest and cleanest village in the district Unnao. All the streets of village are made of concrete and have street lights. In Surseni there is a lot of beautiful houses but Nasiruddin's house is considered as the most beautiful house of the village. There is even not a single mud house over the village. If you will visit this village you will be surprised that is does not look like a village, it looks a small town. In the Surseni there are a lot of grocery shops over the village where you can get mostly each thing easily. Each house of Surseni has Electricity.

Surseni is surrounded by Mango gardens, in this village each and every family has their own Mango garden. The population of this village is approx 11000 and they live peacefully and happily together. They celebrate all festivals together with happiness and joy.

Badi Masjid Surseni

Surseni has seven big mosques and every mosque has beautiful architecture. The oldest mosque of the village is Jama Masjid which is 570 years old. Jama Masjid also known as Badi masjid situated center of the village and has a beautiful Mughal architecture. Just near the Jama masjid there is an Imambara which is called Bara Imambara.

Festivals[]

  • Eid-ul-Fitr commemorates the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammed. On this day people of Surseni distribute sweets, chocolates, fruits, etc. to each other. The children who study in the Islamic school or Madarsa march in village streets and people give them gifts. In the evening houses are decorated with candles and colourful lights and huge firework displays are held while families feast and share gifts.
  • Muharram This is one of the most important festival for Surseni's people, they do mourning on 9th, 10th and 11th day of Muharram month. In the whole village there are 8 Taziahs. Each Taziya belongs to a family or colony.

The biggest Taziya of the village belongs to khan's colony, name of this Taziya is Bara Taziya but is also known as Pacchu ka Taziya and Jharna Wala Taziya. On the ninth day of Muharram whole the Imambara area, masques and streets of the village decorated by the lights. On the mid night of this day all the Taziya comes to Imambara from different colonies. Thousands of people come to see the moments across the Unnao district. Due to Muharram, this village is well known in Uttar Pradesh. The whole program organised by the Member of 'Azadar-e-Hussain'.
