Hodíškov is a village and municipality (obec) in Žďár nad Sázavou District in the Vysočina Region of the Czech Republic.

The municipality covers an area of 5.13 square kilometres (1.98 sq mi), and has a population of 148 (as at 3 Jan. 1, 2010).

Hodíškov lies approximately 11 kilometres (7 mi) south-east of Žďár nad Sázavou, 35 km (22 mi) east of Jihlava, and 134 km (83 mi) south-east of Prague.

Etymology[]

The name Hodíškov is derived from a personal name Hodíšek, the diminutive of Hoda.

Hodíškov Today[]

Village Hodíškov is located in the region of Žďár nad Sázavou. As of Jan. 1, 2010, the municipality had 148 citizens, 71 men and 77 women living in 56 dwellings. The average age is 40.6 years of age.

History[]

The first written record mentioning Hodíškov dates back to the year 1417. In the 15th century, Hodíškov was owned by the Konáč family. As of 1653, Hodíškov consisted of eight large farms. The village was part of the Žďár estate until 1850 when it gained independence. The Linsbauer family was the most prominent family in Hodíškov between the years of 1813 and 1945. The chapel of St. Cyril and Metoděj was built between 1874 and 1877.

Geography and Climate[]

The village Hodíškov is located in the region of Bohemian-Moravian Highlands. The climate of the highlands is colder than the average for Czech Republic. It is also more humid with large amounts of snow in the winter, and frequent rain during the spring, summer, and fall months.

Culture[]

Due to its size the village has very few cultural venues. The library holds a small collection of ca. 710 items. A voluntary fire department also exists in the village. Small corner store is located in the Nevrkla house.

Notable people[]

Mikuláš Konáč from Hodíškov was a famous 15th century printer, translator and publisher. Linsbauer family was the most prominent family.
