2016 Marikina local elections

Local elections was held in Marikina on May 9, 2016 as part of that year's Philippine general election. The voters elected for the elective local posts in the city: the mayor, vice mayor, two district representatives, and councilors, eight in each of the city's two legislative districts.
Background[]
Incumbent Mayor Del de Guzman sought for a third term as Mayor of the Marikina under the Liberal Party along with his Vice Mayor Jose Fabian Cadiz. De Guzman was challenged by NPC Representative from the first district Marcy Teodoro with Former Vice Mayor Marion Andres being his running mate.
In the first district, Former MMDA Chairman and former Mayor Bayani Fernando ran to fill the seat under the Nationalist People's Coalition. Liberal councilor Samuel Ferriol challenged Fernando along with Jopet Sison. In the second district, Miro Quimbo was left unopposed.

Incumbent Representative Marcelino Teodoro, is term-limited and he is barred from running again this election. Councilor Samuel Ferriol, former Marikina mayor and MMDA Chairman Bayani Fernando, and Ipaglaban Mo! host Jopet Sison will be vying for the seat in congress that Teodoro will be vacating.[1]
