Afşin is a town and district of Kahramanmaraş Province in the Mediterranean region of Turkey.

The town of Afşin had a population of roughly 43,217 in 2012. Its economy consists mainly of agriculture[citation needed] although in recent years the industry has been developing slowly.

Amongst the villages in the district of Afşin are Tanır and . Tanır has three quarters: Önder, Karşıyaka, Çağlayan.[citation needed]

Emperor Maurice was born here when it was known as Arabissus.[citation needed]

Afşin-Elbistan power stations[]

Two coal fired power stations are operational and are said to be damaging health via air pollution.[3] A third is proposed.
