Line 2 of the Guangzhou Metro is a north-south line on the system that runs from Guangzhou South Railway Station to Jiahewanggang, with a total length of 31.4 km (19.5 mi) with 24 stations. All stations in Jiahe Line are underground.[4] Line 2's color is blue.

The line previously ran together with Line 8 on a single route between Sanyuanli and Wanshengwei stations until the extensions to both lines officially opened on 25 September 2010.[5]

  • 1984 - The municipal government set up the Preparation Office of Guangzhou Metro.
  • 14 March 1988 - Chinese and French co-planning team publish four tentative designs of Line 1 and Line 2.
  • 28 July 1998 - Construction of Line 2 phase 1 officially commenced.
  • 29 December 2002 - the first section of Line 2 phase 1 enter operation.
  • 28 June 2003 - the second section of Line 2 phase 1 enter operation.
  • 2004 - The Line 2 and 8 realignment project; and Line 2 revise phase 2 (northern extension and southern extension) was announced. Creating Line 8 by splitting off the southeastern section (Xiaogang to Wanshengwei) from Line 2.
  • 26 December 2005 - Pazhou to Wanshengwei extension enter operation and the entire Line 2 phase 1 was completed.
  • June 2007 - Line 2 and 8 realignment project; and Line 2 new phase 2 was approved by the NDRC.
  • 1 August 2007 - Construction of Line 2 and 8 realignment project; and Line 2 phase 2 officially commenced.
  • 21 September 2010 - Services of train bound between Sanyuanli to Wanshengwei ends.
  • 22–24 September 2010 - Temporarily suspension of operation on Line 2.
  • 25 September 2010 - Line 2 and 8 realignment project; and Line 2 phase 2 was completed and the entire line resumed operation.
