List of twin towns and sister cities in Sweden

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Twin towns of Linköping in 2010
Map of Sweden

This is a list of municipalities of Sweden having standing links to local communities in other countries. In some rare cases there are also twinnings with other municipalities within Sweden. In most cases, the association, especially when formalised by local government, is known as "town twinning" (Swedish: vänort), though other terms, such as "partner towns" or "sister cities" are sometimes used instead, and while most of the places included are towns, the list also comprises villages, cities, districts, counties, etc. with similar links.

As a sign of deteriorating relations with China, Gothenburg, Linköping, Luleå and Västerås, which have had long-standing twinning or partnership agreements with Chinese cities – Shanghai, Guangzhou, Xian and Jinan respectively – have allowed the agreements to lapse in 2020.[1] Linköping mayor Lars Vikinge told that they were terminating all political contact with China because of the unacceptable Chinese hostility towards the Swedish government.[1]
